Assistant Buyer

Job Description
Summary
Under general supervision and according to Company policies and procedures, performs a variety of duties to compile information and records to assist Purchasing Department in producing purchase orders for procurement of materials and services.
Essential Functions
Prepare, maintain and review purchasing files, reports and price lists.
Locate suppliers, using sources such as catalogs and the internet and interview them to gather information about products to be ordered.
Review requisition orders to verify accuracy, terminology and specifications.
Prepare purchase orders and send copies to suppliers and to departments originating requests.
Respond to inquiries about order status, changes or cancellations.
Assists Buyers and Sr. Buyer when requested.
Identifies shortages, missed or late deliveries and other problems.
Compare prices, specifications and delivery dates in order to present best bids to clerks and buyers among potential suppliers.
Track the status of requisitions, contracts and orders.
Calculate costs of orders and charge or forward invoices to appropriate accounts.
Communicates with Receiving Department when shipments arrive to ensure that orders have been filled correctly and that goods meet specifications.
Compare suppliers' bills with bids and purchase orders in order to verify accuracy.
Determine if inventory quantities are sufficient for needs, ordering more materials when necessary.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Associates Degree Required, Bachelor's preferred; prior purchasing experience in manufacturing environment considered in place of degree.
Special Skills
Must be proficient with Microsoft Office suite of software, especially Excel.
Requires effective oral and written communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, and computer literacy, especially with excel spreadsheets.
Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints and deadlines.
Interpersonal skills necessary in order to respond to requests requiring research and to communicate effectively with a diverse group of managers, personnel and vendors; and provide information with ordinary courtesy and tact.
Work routinely requires a high level of mental effort and strain when performing a high volume of clerical tasks and performing other essential duties.
Work occasionally requires more than 40 hours per week to perform the essential duties of the position.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.


Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
